How AM Studio Puts Toronto in its Best Light
From the red carpet to the city’s most elegant homes, the local studio is an international design leader.
In the heart of Toronto’s Design District, AM Studio is a luminous presence. While the Kincort st. showroom’s signage is subtle, the rich array of bespoke, fused glass lights shining through the windows offer an enticing introduction to a leading Canadian retailer and studio.
Established in 2007 by Giora and Orly Meyer, AM Studio leverages the decades of experience of its founding duo to offer bespoke, design-oriented lighting solutions. Drawing on Giora’s rich family heritage of artisan glass innovation and Orly’s extensive architectural training, the studio combines a one-of-a-kind lighting collection – featuring some of the world’s most renowned brands – with extensive customization to suit every context and client.

Those brands don’t just fill the showroom, either. While 80 per cent of AM’s collection is designed and produced in Toronto, leading international brands like Bomma and Lasvit are regular collaborators, as are renowned Canadian artists like Karli Sears. Most pieces can be adapted to fit any space as well, from dining showpiece to island pendant to staircase fixture, to name just a few options.

“We understand that every space is unique,” says Orly, “and we work closely with designers and homeowners to provide the perfect solution.” The result is a sparkling portfolio of projects, ranging from some of the Toronto area’s most elegant homes, offices and institutions. Named one of Toronto Life’s best lighting stores, AM Studio has developed a reputation for excellence – one that extends far beyond the GTA.

In the United Kingdom, AM Studio was selected to design three marquee installations for the Canadian High Commission’s Canada House headquarters. Closer to home, AM Studio brought a dose of glamour to Citytv’s Cityline coverage of the 2016 Grammy Awards. The frosted, pearly-looking Blooming post lamps in various heights and colour combinations provided the perfect accent to a red carpet-worthy set.

From international diplomacy to Hollywood moments, AM Studio’s portfolio includes an impressive range of high-profile design. But the same bespoke touch and attention to detail applies to even the smallest residential project. Every space is treated with care, creativity and AM Studio’s trademark energy. It’s an ethos Orly describes best: “Grab everything with two hands.” Then just stand back and bask in the light.
